Plaid Palooza: Raising the Bar for Parks

The countdown is on! It’s hard to believe that we are only four and a half weeks away from the very first Plaid Palooza! I am thrilled to participate in Park Pride’s event on November 4th because it’s a unique opportunity that incorporates:

  • fundraising for a cause I believe in,
  • service to my city,
  • and fall festivities – all in one!

Historic Fourth Ward Park, the site of Plaid’s volunteer project, has proven to be a lively gathering place for Atlantans and visitors of all ages—so much so, that sections of the park have become degraded from overuse.

These beds at Historic 4th Ward Park suffer from damage from heavy foot-traffic, erosion, and plants death due to poor suitability to the conditions.

Volunteers participating in Plaid Palooza will gather in Historic Fourth Ward Park on November 4th to revitalize a section of the park with new plantings that will help to complete the park’s master plan. Funds raised before the project ($150 per volunteer) will benefit Park Pride programs which work to improve parks and strengthen communities across Atlanta and DeKalb.

What better way to celebrate the turn of the seasons than to roll up our (plaid) sleeves and gather to beautify the park and support the work that Park Pride does to raise the bar for all parks?

To me, Atlanta parks are vibrant greenspaces where we can play, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether it’s going for an evening walk to unwind after work, enjoying a community festival, or playing a pickup game of kickball with my friends, I welcome any opportunity to spend time in a park. Though we sometimes take parks for granted, Atlanta’s greenspaces are an integral part of our culture and have a huge impact on our quality of life.

Join me and my friends at Plaid Palooza in Historic Fourth Ward Park on Nov. 4th!

I am supporting Park Pride’s Plaid Palooza because I want Historic Fourth Ward Park, and every Atlanta park, to continue to thrive and serve as a gathering place for the community for many years to come.
