Reimagining gathering spaces through Park Pride’s Park Design Workshop

“Community starts where people gather.”

Through our Park Design Workshop, we paired seven Friends of the Park groups with landscape architects who volunteered their time and expertise to create conceptual plans reimaging park gathering spaces. After working together for two months, they presented their plans earlier this week!

The parks varied vastly, ranging from a 100+ acre nature preserve to a neighborhood pocket park. The designs featured a variety of elements, including comfort amenities like seating, water fountains, restrooms and shade structures; recreation like table tennis and pickleball; places to hang out like pavilions; increased ADA accessibility; and more.

Third spaces — public, informal gathering spots outside of home and work — like parks are crucial for a healthy, happy community. With the plans in hand, these communities are one step closer to making their greenspace dreams a reality.
