Join photographer Virginie Kippelen on January 31st from 5:30 – 7:pm for the opening reception of her new photography exhibit, “Reclaimed by Nature: The Historic Davidson Quarries of Arabia Mountain” at the DeKalb Historic Center Museum, downtown Decatur (also known as the old courthouse on the square).

This work is a visual exploration of the former granite quarries at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve in Lithonia, Georgia. It features 19 photographs in addition to historic images. Since the land is no longer quarried, it is slowly being reclaimed by nature, although traces of its industrial past remain. There is an intriguing beauty to be found in this massive rock on which mosses, lichen and other plants thrive.
