Be a part of the action in DeKalb Memorial Park. The Friends of DeKalb Memorial Park and Parkview Community Garden have received a Small Change Grant from Park Pride and a matching donation from Commissioner Larry Johnson’s office to extend the fruit orchard in DeKalb Memorial Park.

Join the Friends group on Saturday, December 2nd at 10 a.m. to get these new fruit trees in the ground!

All tools and planting knowledge will be provided – all you have to do is show up, bring a friend, and be ready to plant some awesome fruit trees!

History: 

The first fruit trees were planted in Dekalb Memorial Park in 2012. Since then, park goers have been able to enjoy the benefits of having the fruit trees. The trees have provided the community with access to fresh, nutritious fruit and a point of pride for the community. The ongoing project has opened up a part of the park that was inaccessible before the trees were planted and now we are extending the orchard to continue the legacy of edible landscapes!
