Conservancy at Historic Washington Park “Our Westside Story”
Our Westside Story is a short documentary film project that focuses on the history and development of Atlanta’s historic Westside as told through oral history interviews with long standing members of the community. The film’s intention is to highlight the importance of historic preservation and the urgency of addressing the status of significant buildings that are in peril.
This ongoing project represents a year’s long effort by The Conservancy at Historic Washington Park to collect the cultural evidence of Black Atlanta’s contributions to the city and the world during the 20th century. This film is executive produced by Christi Jackson in partnership with film maker John Thornton, professor of digital film studies at Georgia Tech.
Following the film there will be a discussion about historic preservation and Washington Park moderated by Jacqueline J. Royster, Dean, Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
