Welcome Torey Garrett, Park Pride’s Park Visioning Intern!

Torey comes to us from Decatur, where his interest in design and environmental planning began in high school. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Design from Auburn University and is now earning his Master’s degree in Environmental Planning and Design from the University of Georgia.

We asked some questions to get to know Torey a little better!

Why are parks important?

Parks are important because they provide an opportunity for outdoor recreation(active/passive) and many other outdoor activities.

Park Pride’s mission is “to engage communities to activate the power of parks.” What does the “power of parks” mean to you?

The power to be engaged with your community activate the public space to benefit all visitors.

What do you most enjoy about working with Park Pride so far?

I enjoy working with the Visioning Team and the projects that we are working on are great and very engaging.

Why is it important for communities to have a voice in their parks?

It is important for the community to have a voice because the park is for the community. The community should be actively involves in its development.

Now for a couple of fun questions, do you have a favorite musician/band?

I don’t currently have a favorite artist, but trap/hip hop is my favorite genre.

Tea or coffee?

Tea.

What’s your favorite park activity?

I enjoy walking in parks.
