2019 Martin Luther King Day of Service

On Martin Luther King Day of Service, more than 80 Park Pride and Atlanta BeltLine volunteers gathered at Washington Park, the first public park for African Americans in the City of Atlanta, to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and the park’s 100th anniversary. Volunteers braved sub-freezing temperatures to help plant blueberry bushes and spring bulbs, mulch trees, clean up litter, remove invasive plants, control erosion, and fix up a picnic table.

However, not only are volunteers contributing to the beautification of the park, but they’re building community as they come together to make a difference in their city. That’s the power of parks!

Park Pride and our event partners, The Conservancy at Historic Washington Park, the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, the Pebble Tossers, and the Atlanta Audubon Society are grateful for this dedicated group of volunteers and their service to a beloved Atlanta park!
