Award Amount: $75,000

Program Overview

The Design Award provides Friends of the Park (FOP) groups with a pathway from a community-supported concept design to a shovel-ready project. Through the award, Park Pride hires an external professional design and engineering team to produce a full set of construction documents. These documents enable the FOP group to apply for a Capital Improvement Grant in the following year’s cycle with accurate cost estimates and a ready-to-implement design.

Park Pride will manage the design team, coordinating the construction document process with the City of Atlanta (as landowner) and community stakeholders. Once construction documents are complete, Park Pride will support the FOP group in identifying qualified contractors to bid on the project and may, in some cases, serve as project manager for construction.

Design Award Terms

Park Pride will hire a professional design and engineering team to produce construction documents for the awarded project. The design team will be selected based on qualifications—including relevant project experience, knowledge of City of Atlanta permitting requirements, and a comprehensive team of licensed professionals—as well as proposed fees. Representatives from the Friends of the Park Group and the City of Atlanta may participate in the selection process when a design team has not already been secured.

The total Design Award amount shall not exceed $75,000. Any unspent funds at the end of the design process will be reallocated by Park Pride and may roll over into a future Capital Award.

Representatives from Park Pride, the Friends Group, and the City of Atlanta will participate throughout the design process. Accepting the Design Award carries responsibilities that ensure a consistent and efficient process aligned with the grant cycle.
