SUMMARY:Second Friday Walk in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Raise your Park IQ with Park Pride! \nJoin us on Friday\, August 9 at 9 a.m. for a one-hour walk at Lionel Hampton-Beecher Hills Nature Preserve! We’ll explore parts of this 100+ acre nature preserve\, which is largely mature forest. There are three champion trees in the park (which is the largest known tree of a particular species)\, including a sugar maple\, umbrella magnolia and tulip poplar. The Lionel Hampton Trail was also PATH’s first trail and now connects to the Southwest BeltLine Connector. \nSee you there! Bring your coffee and your walking shoes. \nNOTE: We will meet at the trailhead nearest Beecher Hills Elementary School. Street parking is available. The walk will be about 1.5 miles long\, with half on a paved trail with a slight incline and the other half (which completes the loop) on a natural trail. If you aren’t comfortable walking on the natural path\, you are welcome to stay on the paved path and rejoin the group at the meeting location.

SUMMARY:Park Design Workshop: Entrances & Gateways
DESCRIPTION:Park entrances and gateways are more than just safe and accessible pathways into parks\, and our perception and use of parks is greatly affected by how we arrive and move into them. \nThrough our Park Design Consultation & Workshop\, Park Pride has paired six community groups with volunteer landscape architects to produce conceptual plans to create memorable\, safe\, accessible\, and welcoming thresholds in our local parks. On Wednesday\, August 28 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.\, our Friends groups will present these plans! \nThis event is free and open to registered Friends of Park groups. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from your peers about ways to make your park entrance more welcoming and accessible for all visitors. Come join us! \n\nPlease fill out the form below to register. Due to capacity limitations\, please limit the number of attendees from your group to two.
