SUMMARY:Park Pride Virtual Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:From Good to Great: Going Beyond Atlanta’s ParkScore\n  \nREGISTER\nNo cost to register. \n  \n\nOn May 27th\, The Trust for Public Land released an updated ParkScore ranking\, showing that Atlanta’s score had slipped from 40th to 49th among the 100 largest US cities. What actions can we take now to get our city back on track? \nAt this Park Pride Virtual Roundtable\, Charlie McCabe\, parks and placemaking expert\, will share the findings from a recent study (commissioned by The Trust for Public Land and funded by The Arthur M. Blank Foundation) of Atlanta’s park system. \nRead the Study \nMcCabe will also highlight and discuss recommendations to move the needle in making great parks accessible to all Atlantans. Roundtable attendees will have the opportunity to share responses to and implementation strategies for the recommendations during interactive breakout sessions facilitated by local leaders. \n  \nAbout the Featured Speaker\nCharlie McCabe is a parks\, placemaking\, and programming consultant\, based in the Boston\, MA area. Charlie works with public agencies\, parks nonprofits and commercial clients. In his spare time\, he volunteers\, helping with trail\, garden and other volunteer projects. He’s  an avid biker and gardener\, too. \n\nPrior to his consulting role\, Charlie was the Director of the Center for City Park Excellence at The Trust for Public Land (2017-2019). He also served as Director of Public Programs for the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy (2012-2015) and as Executive Director of the Austin Parks Foundation (2005-2012). SUMMARY:Application Deadline: Park Design Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the Park Pride’s Park Visioning team hosts a Park Design Workshop\, which pairs registered Friends groups with a volunteer design professional (landscape architect or civil engineer) to get conceptual design recommendations for a focused project in your park or greenspace. \n  \nDo You Need to Register Your Friends of the Park group? \n\nClick HERE to register a Friends group in the City of Atlanta\nClick HERE to register a Friends group in unincorporated DeKalb\, Tucker\, or Brookhaven\n\nNot sure if your group is registered? Reach out to friends@parkpride.org.\n  \nThis year\, Park Pride will select up to five parks in our service area to work with a volunteer landscape architect or civil engineer to design a small area of a public park. \nSuccessful applicants will meet with the designer in their park to discuss their project and ideas for how to address it. Applicants will then present their designs at the Big Park Meeting on August 14. \nPast projects have included play areas\, park entrances\, dog parks\, trails\, gardens\, and more! We ask you to limit your project to something small that can be built with $50\,000 or less. \nIf you’re not sure whether your project is a good fit\, reach out to Andrew White\, Director of Park Visioning\, to discuss: andrew@parkpride.org. \n  \n\n\nApply Now \n  \n\n\nTo learn more about the Park Visioning Program and other park design assistance offered by Park Pride\, please visit the Park Visioning webpage.

SUMMARY:Naturally Resilient Tour – The Intersection of Water and Greenspace
DESCRIPTION:$5 / person to register \nOn this tour\, you’ll learn about three sites that demonstrate what’s possible using natural green infrastructure to manage stormwater flows and to improve a watershed.  Guided by staff from The Conservation Fund and the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM)\, attendees will learn about stream restoration and constructed wetlands project at the McDaniel Branch Ponds. Attendees will walk the site and learn the story of its transformation while enjoying seven acres of “nature in the city.” \nThe comprehensive “lens” gained at McDaniel Branch Ponds will then be used to examine two other restoration sites on the Westside: Valley of the Hawks in Historic Westin Heights\, and the Proctor Creek restoration site in Historic Hunter Hills. Once completed\, both projects will mitigate flooding\, improve stream quality\, and provide community members passive access to new natural greenspaces in their neighborhoods. \nPlease Note: This tour takes place at two different sites located approximately 15 min. apart. Due to COVID safety precautions\, attendees are responsible for their travel between the sites. \nAccessibility: This tour consists of hiking in unpaved and wild spaces. Use your discretion in signing up. \n  \nRegister\nOops!
