SUMMARY:Second Friday Walk in the Park - The Garden Brookhaven Park
DESCRIPTION:This event has passed. \nExplore local hidden gems with Park Pride! Join us on Friday\, June 13 at 9 a.m. to explore The Garden at Brookhaven Park with the Brookhaven Park Conservancy! \nBrookhaven Park is a 20.8 acre go-to destination for recreation and relaxation in the heart of Brookhaven. We’ll have taken a short tour of the garden and park as well as celebrate an exciting win — the Garden at Brookhaven Park’s recent successful application for a Small Change Grant! This is a great opportunity to see how Park Pride’s Small Change Grant Program can make a meaningful impact and to learn from the group’s experience. Whether you’re looking for grant opportunities\, curious about the grant process\, or just want to connect with fellow Friends groups\, we’d love to see you there! \nParking: When turning into the parking lot\, turn left to go around the parking circle. Park on the far left side of the lot (when looking at the building) and enter near the community garden.

When designed well\, they become welcoming places where everyone feels like they belong — regardless of age\, background\, or ability. \nThrough our Park Design Consultation & Workshop\, Park Pride has paired seven community groups with volunteer landscape architects to produce conceptual plans to reimagine their park’s gathering spaces. On Wednesday\, August 27\, from 6:30 – 8 p.m.\, our Friends groups will present these plans! \nThis event is free and open to registered Friends of Park groups. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from your peers about ways to make your park’s gathering spaces more memorable\, safe\, accessible\, and welcoming!

The 280-acre park was developed on the site of the former Bellwood Quarry and features a reservoir\, trails\, meadows and incredible views of the Atlanta skyline. Recently renamed in honor of Atlanta’s 56th mayor\, the park stands as a testament to both natural beauty and civic legacy. Thanks to the leadership of Friends of Shirley Clarke Franklin Park\, this space continues to evolve as a gathering place\, a sanctuary\, and a shining example of community-driven transformation. \nOur walk will be approximately one mile along a paved route with a few steep hills. We’ll see you there! Bring your coffee and your walking shoes. \nNOTE: We’ll meet by the Phoenix statue near the parking lot. The address 1660 Johnson Rd NW will direct you there.

Bagley Park (formerly Frankie Allen Park) is a 21-acre greenspace nestled in Buckhead’s Garden Hills near Buckhead Village. Known as the home of Buckhead Baseball\, a baseball league for kids\, the park also features four tennis courts\, shady picnic spots\, paved walkways\, and plenty of room to explore beyond the ballfields. \nIn addition to its amenities\, the Bagley Park holds an important history. A small cemetery along Pharr Road marks the once-thriving African-American community founded here in the 1870s. In 1929\, community leader William Bagley purchased land and renamed it from Macedonia Park. \nBring your coffee and walking shoes as we explore the park and its story! \nNOTE: After entering\, turn left into the first parking lot. The group will meet in front of the Mt. Olive Cemetery near the parking lot. The walk is under a mile on paved paths with a gentle slope\, and the route is wheelchair accessible.
