When designed well\, they become welcoming places where everyone feels like they belong — regardless of age\, background\, or ability. \nThrough our Park Design Consultation & Workshop\, Park Pride has paired seven community groups with volunteer landscape architects to produce conceptual plans to reimagine their park’s gathering spaces. On Wednesday\, August 27\, from 6:30 – 8 p.m.\, our Friends groups will present these plans! \nThis event is free and open to registered Friends of Park groups. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from your peers about ways to make your park’s gathering spaces more memorable\, safe\, accessible\, and welcoming!

We’ll see you there! Bring your coffee and your walking shoes. \nNOTE: We’ll meet by the Phoenix statue near the parking lot. The address 1660 Johnson Rd NW will direct you there.

Bagley Park (formerly Frankie Allen Park) is a 21-acre greenspace nestled in Buckhead’s Garden Hills near Buckhead Village. Known as the home of Buckhead Baseball\, a baseball league for kids\, the park also features four tennis courts\, shady picnic spots\, paved walkways\, and plenty of room to explore beyond the ballfields. \nIn addition to its amenities\, the Bagley Park holds an important history. A small cemetery along Pharr Road marks the once-thriving African-American community founded here in the 1870s. In 1929\, community leader William Bagley purchased land and renamed it from Macedonia Park. \nBring your coffee and walking shoes as we explore the park and its story! \nNOTE: After entering\, turn left into the first parking lot. The group will meet in front of the Mt. Olive Cemetery near the parking lot. The walk is under a mile on paved paths with a gentle slope\, and the route is wheelchair accessible.

Join us on Friday\, January 9\, at 9 am for a one-hour walk at Brownwood Park led by the Friends of Brownwood! This small but mighty park is a true neighborhood gem\, home to a vibrant youth community center\, winding trails\, a flourishing community garden\, active tennis courts\, and more. This park has something for everyone\, and you won’t want to miss exploring it with us! \nWe’re also excited to highlight Brownwood’s newest feature: the beautiful community pavilion! Park Pride recently joined neighbors and partners for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this amazing addition\, supported by a Park Pride grant. What makes this project especially meaningful is that it is truly for the community and by the community. The pavilion was designed by Lauren Trotter\, an East Atlanta resident whose thoughtful design reflects the spirit and creativity of the neighborhood. \nCome walk with us\, meet neighbors\, hear the story behind the pavilion\, and enjoy a refreshing morning in one of East Atlanta’s beloved parks. Light refreshments will be provided (while supplies last) by Capital B News\, who will also be joining us. We can’t wait to see you there! \nNOTE: We’ll meet outside of the East Atlanta Kids Club. There is a parking lot with limited spots\, along with plenty of street parking. \n\nEnvironmental Education Day is in January\, let’s use this walk as a way to get started! Try using apps like iNaturalist or Merlin Bird ID to turn an ordinary walk into a discovery adventure\, identify plants\, insects\, and birds\, contribute to community science\, and learn how wildlife is using urban green spaces in real time.
