DESCRIPTION:From Good to Great: Going Beyond Atlanta’s ParkScore\n  \nREGISTER\nNo cost to register. \n  \n\nOn May 27th\, The Trust for Public Land released an updated ParkScore ranking\, showing that Atlanta’s score had slipped from 40th to 49th among the 100 largest US cities. What actions can we take now to get our city back on track? \nAt this Park Pride Virtual Roundtable\, Charlie McCabe\, parks and placemaking expert\, will share the findings from a recent study (commissioned by The Trust for Public Land and funded by The Arthur M. Blank Foundation) of Atlanta’s park system. \nRead the Study \nMcCabe will also highlight and discuss recommendations to move the needle in making great parks accessible to all Atlantans. Roundtable attendees will have the opportunity to share responses to and implementation strategies for the recommendations during interactive breakout sessions facilitated by local leaders. \n  \nAbout the Featured Speaker\nCharlie McCabe is a parks\, placemaking\, and programming consultant\, based in the Boston\, MA area. Charlie works with public agencies\, parks nonprofits and commercial clients. In his spare time\, he volunteers\, helping with trail\, garden and other volunteer projects. He’s  an avid biker and gardener\, too. \n\nPrior to his consulting role\, Charlie was the Director of the Center for City Park Excellence at The Trust for Public Land (2017-2019). He also served as Director of Public Programs for the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy (2012-2015) and as Executive Director of the Austin Parks Foundation (2005-2012). Between the Greenway and The Trust for Public Land\, Charlie earned a master’s degree in Urban Placemaking & Management at Pratt Institute and worked as a fellow at New Yorkers for Parks and the Municipal Art Society in New York City. \n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:COME HELP IMPROVE AND PRESERVE OUR WONDERFUL PARK \nFocus on two key projects and overall park clean-up: \n1 – Invasive Workshop – invasive plant identification & removal – coordinated with Trees Atlanta \n2 – Stormwater Drain Tagging – use toolkits to clean\, adhere tags and confirm on map with Public Works Stormwater \nOther ongoing items include lake clean-up\, causeway clean-up\, trails/pavilions and parking lots.  Bring your own canoe/kayak\, or sign-up to use one of the two canoes onhand w/ MCPC.  We’d love to have max clean-up on the causeway\, along the trails\, around the pavilions\,and in the parking lots. \nWe will collect & consolidate trash\, recycling & debris and City of Brookhaven P&R will pick-up.  Great for team-building and school/scout service hours.  Let MCPC know if you require Service Hour letters for your group. \nDress appropriately and bring gloves & tools.  Bulk\, iced water will be provided – please bring a reusable drinking bottle. \n– Meet at the Caretakers House  – directly across from main\, MC Major baseball field – for event sign-in\, city waiver\, tool pick-up\, gloves and kick-off instructions.  Masks are required\, and we will stay distanced during the enire event. \nQuestions? Purchased by DeKalb County for use as a park in 2010\, this property contains structures with historic value\, native wildlife\, a garden\, and plenty of beautiful old trees. This vision plan\, created through a public engagement process\, will result in a conceptual plan that is built upon opinions and input from the surrounding community. \nYour opinion is crucial to the success of this process. A steering committee of area residents and Park Pride will be hosting public meetings over the next several weeks to collect your ideas. These ideas will help inform future investments made in the park.
