ActivateATL: Recreation and Parks for All!

Planning a Shared Vision for the Future of Parks and Recreation in Atlanta

The City of Atlanta’s Department of Parks and Recreation has launched a comprehensive master planning effort, ActivateATL: Recreation and Parks for All!

During this challenging time and beyond, the Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to building a better parks and recreation system that meets the needs of all Atlantans. Now is your chance to share your thoughts on how recreation and parks can better serve you and improve the health of your family!

ActivateATL will ensure that all residents—regardless of age, race, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, or zip code—have equitable access to exceptional parks and recreational activities, aligning with Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ vision of “One Atlanta”. ActivateATL will also identify important funding recommendations and create a 10-year capital improvement plan to guide the preservation and maintenance of parks and recreation centers.

The success of this plan depends on hearing from YOU!

About the Project Team:

To spearhead the development of this plan, the Department of Parks and Recreation has hired GAI Consultants. To date, the GAI team has completed over 400 comprehensive parks and recreation master plans nationwide.

Perez Planning + Design will serve as the project’s local lead, providing intimate local knowledge of the Department’s recreational programsfacilities, and park challenges.

Park Pride, the 30-year old Atlanta-based nonprofit that engages communities to activate the power of parks, will support the fulfillment of unprecedented public engagement strategy to meet, listen, and learn about the unique needs, priorities, and perceptions of Atlantans in all neighborhoods. Park Pride’s role in ActivateATL is being funded through a generous grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation.

PEQ, a local public engagement firm, will also supporting the outreach effort.
